"Amazing, spectacular fork breakfast! Before noon: eggs, potatoes and bacon — for me, the best casa de comidas in Barcelona. Wine from Gandesa served in a porró: that says it all."
Real Catalan cooking, since 1946.
Three generations of the Llopart family running the same neighbourhood dining room — no rush, no frills.
Eighty years, no closed sign
Bar Gelida opened its doors in 1946 and hasn't stopped serving tables since. Today, the third generation of the Llopart family — with Gerard now at the helm — keeps running the place exactly as he learned it from his father and grandfather: no rush, no frills.
Nine wine barrels still hang near the ceiling, witnesses to when this was a real wine cellar. They're not decoration — they're one of the few things nobody has ever considered taking down.
The esmorzar de forquilla
The counter at Gelida fills up with dishes that would count as lunch anywhere else: cap i pota, tripe, fricandó, botifarra sausage with beans, salt cod... This is the fork breakfast — the Catalan tradition of a hearty, knife-and-fork breakfast before heading back to work.
Cap i pota
Slow-braised veal head and trotter stew, made exactly as it has been here since day one.

"Highly recommended. You just don't eat at these prices in Barcelona anymore: Catalan food, meat and fish well prepared, at laughably good prices. There's always a line at the door. The guy behind the bar was lovely and a real professional."
"Bar Gelida is one of those places that feels like home from the first bite. The homemade tripe is a showstopper — tender, with the perfect sauce — and the fricandó is another essential classic. Humble, authentic and full of flavour."
"Gelida is a meeting point and a place of tradition, with well-made fork breakfasts and warm, professional service. Manuel and Carlos always treat us wonderfully."
"A real old-school Catalan kitchen. Fresh, daily produce. Service is quick given the volume of people. They don't take reservations, but you put your name down and they call you in. Very few places like this are left in Barcelona."
